Today would be Jerry Garcia’s 68th birthday. Had he not passed away in early August of 1995, he most certainly would still be touring with the Grateful Dead, making music deeply embraced by an appreciative and understanding few, misinterpreted and dismissed by so many more. Jerry gets a nod in WineZag today for the amazing connection between the music he made and the spirit of wine appreciation. Here at WineZag, the focus remains “wine as a lubricant for human connection without bias”. It occurs to me today, thinking back on so many tremendous musically driven experiences I have enjoyed with the Grateful Dead, that a similar level of human connection was woven in those outdoor fields, concert halls, and bootleg tape filled homes. Happy 68th birthday Jerry, and thanks for the amazing collection of music, experiences, and memories that you laid down and left behind to weave connection for those that choose to remain open to it. Here is a birthday treat and look back to 1969 as Jerry and the boys appeared on Playboy After Dark with as much ease and comfort as if they were on an impromptu stage constructed on the streets of the Haight.
And if you liked that, here is the follow on St. Stephen to this version of Mountains of the Moon
Happy Birthday, Jerry Garcia.
